IEMT – Integral Eye Movement Therapy
A gentle approach to exploring emotional patterns and supporting emotional wellbeing.
What Is IEMT?
Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a therapeutic approach that combines guided eye movements with specific questioning techniques to explore emotional responses and patterns associated with past experiences.
Sometimes, an experience may be over, but the emotions connected to it can still influence how we respond to situations today.
IEMT offers a structured way to explore these responses and consider new perspectives.
One of the appealing features of IEMT is that you don't necessarily need to talk through difficult experiences in detail. This can be particularly reassuring for people who find it uncomfortable or overwhelming to discuss personal memories.
At Pinpoint Therapy, sessions are delivered in a calm, compassionate and non-judgemental environment, with your comfort and wellbeing at the heart of the process.
How Does IEMT Work?
During IEMT, you are guided through specific eye movements while briefly bringing an emotional response or experience to mind.
Gentle questioning is also used to explore patterns in how you experience emotions and how you see yourself.
The approach is designed to help you reflect on familiar emotional reactions and explore whether your relationship with these experiences can change.
Unlike some traditional talking therapies, IEMT doesn't usually require you to describe traumatic or upsetting events in detail.
Everyone responds differently, and no particular outcome can be guaranteed. Research into IEMT is still developing, so it is important to recognise that its clinical effectiveness has not yet been established through a strong evidence base.
Who Might Consider IEMT?
People may choose to explore IEMT when they notice recurring emotional experiences or patterns they would like to understand better.
These might include:
-
Emotional responses that feel disproportionate to a situation
-
Recurring emotional triggers
-
Feelings of being stuck in familiar patterns
-
Difficult emotions associated with past experiences
-
Emotional overwhelm
-
Challenges with self-confidence or self-perception
-
Repeating relationship or behavioural patterns
You do not need to have a diagnosed mental health condition to explore IEMT.
IEMT is not a substitute for evidence-based treatment for conditions such as PTSD, depression or anxiety disorders. If you are experiencing significant psychological distress, an appropriate assessment and established treatment may be more suitable.
At Pinpoint Therapy, we can discuss your needs and whether IEMT is an appropriate option for you.
What Happens During an IEMT Session?
Your comfort and emotional wellbeing come first.
Your appointment begins with a relaxed conversation about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to explore.
You do not need to share every detail of your personal experiences. We can work with the feelings and patterns that arise without discussing memories in depth.
During the session, I will guide you through a series of gentle eye movements while asking specific questions about your emotional responses.
There is no physical contact involved, and you remain fully awake and in control throughout the session.
We will check in regularly to see how you are feeling, allowing time for reflection and discussion.
You are always welcome to pause, ask questions or stop the process at any time.
Every session is individual, and the pace is guided by your comfort and needs.
IEMT Therapy Sessions
£65.00
60–90 minute individual appointment
IEMT sessions are tailored to your individual needs, allowing time to explore emotional patterns, work through the therapeutic process and reflect on your experience.
Unlike some therapies involving regular weekly appointments, IEMT may be offered as a shorter series of sessions, depending on what you wish to explore.
Some clients may choose a single appointment, while others may prefer two or three sessions. We will discuss what feels appropriate for you, without any pressure to commit to further treatment.
As emotional work can sometimes feel tiring, appointments allow time to settle and reflect before leaving.
One appointment. One price. Personalised care at your own pace.
FAQ's
Does IEMT involve hypnosis?
No. IEMT does not involve hypnosis or entering a trance. You remain fully awake, aware and in control throughout the session.
Will I have to talk about traumatic experiences?
Not necessarily. One of the features of IEMT is that you don't need to describe upsetting memories in detail.
You may be asked to briefly bring a particular feeling or experience to mind, but you can choose how much information you share.
Is IEMT the same as EMDR?
No. Although both approaches use guided eye movements, they are different therapies.
Can IEMT help with anxiety, trauma or emotional difficulties?
Some people choose to explore IEMT because they experience recurring emotional triggers, difficult feelings or patterns they would like to understand better.
IEMT should not replace appropriate medical care or evidence-based psychological treatment.
How many IEMT sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your individual circumstances and what you would like to explore.
Some clients may choose a single session, while others may wish to book two or three appointments.
There is no requirement to commit to a course of treatment, and results cannot be guaranteed.
Can IEMT bring up difficult emotions?
Yes. Exploring emotional experiences can sometimes feel uncomfortable or tiring.
Your wellbeing is always the priority. Sessions are paced according to your needs, with opportunities to pause, reflect or stop at any time.
How long does a session last?
IEMT appointments usually last between 60 and 90 minutes, allowing time for an initial discussion, the therapeutic process and reflection afterwards.
Session price: £65.00, regardless of whether your appointment lasts 60 or 90 minutes.
Is IEMT suitable for everyone?
Not necessarily. Before booking, we'll discuss your circumstances, what you're hoping to explore and whether IEMT is an appropriate option for you.
If you're currently experiencing a significant mental health crisis or require specialist psychological support, another service may be better suited to your needs.
Can IEMT be used alongside other therapies?
In some circumstances, IEMT may be explored alongside other forms of emotional wellbeing support.
Please let me know if you're currently receiving counselling, psychological therapy or mental health treatment so we can consider whether IEMT is appropriate alongside your existing care.
What if I feel uncomfortable during the session?
You are always in control. You can ask questions, take a break or stop the session at any time.
At Pinpoint Therapy, my aim is to provide a compassionate, respectful and non-judgemental environment where you feel listened to and supported.
