In Person Therapy Sessions
In - person sessions take place from my private clinic room and are tailored to what you need on the day. Depending on your needs, sessions may include acupuncture, acupressure massage, somatic regulation, guided relaxation, IEMT- informed work, EFT - style tapping and therapeutic conversation. My approach is gentle, holistic and nervous-system informed. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we look at how your body, emotions and mind may be responding, and work in a way that supports regulation, release and reconnection.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an evidence based medicine that originated in China over 2,500 years ago. It is widely practiced across the world in public and private settings. Acupuncture can restore your body back to health by promoting healing and balance within the body. It is a holistic treatment that treats every aspect of person on all levels to promote physical and mental health. Acupuncture needles are as fine as a piece of hair and made up of sterile stainless steel. They are used only once. When the needle is inserted, you may experience anything from a dull ache to a stronger sensation that may last about a second, many feel nothing at all. Many feel acupuncture profoundly relaxing and it is not uncommon to fall asleep during treatment. During the appointment I may give you lifestyle advice including dietary and acupressure techniques to use. When practiced by a highly qualified practitioner such as a member of Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (AAC) acupuncture is very safe with few, if any side effects. In my clinic, acupuncture may be used on its own or alongside other gentle therapeutic approaches, depending on what feels appropriate for you.
What shall I expect during an Acupuncture session?
During your session I will begin by asking questions regarding your symptoms, taking your pulse and observing your tongue. Afterwards you will be asked to roll up or remove items of clothing and settle comfortably on the treatment couch. I prioritise patient comfort and you can have a choice of a heated blanket, foil blanket, music playing and incense burning whilst the pins activate your internal medicine. You will be resting for a minimum of thirty minutes and up to an hour depending on your condition. Acupuncture evokes a sense of relaxation and many fall asleep during the treatment time.
How many treatments may I need?
The number of treatments that you will require depends on your condition. Many people start off with one treatment a week for 4-6 weeks and could expect to see lasting improvements with that time. Some people feel better after just one. As your body begins to regain its innate balance you will need fewer treatments to maintain health and wellbeing. Once we have got on top of your condition many people book in once every few months to maintain their good health and keep aches and pains away.
Acupressure / Bodywork
Acupressure, deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is a therapeutic practice that stimulates the body's energy pathways, or meridians, to restore balance and vitality.
